'Who's New: Elisabeth Rohm, OLTL's Dorothy Hayes'
by Ellen Hagler
Soap Opera Weekly
Date Unknown
Character:
Dorothy Hayes, Mel's daughter. Currently living in New York, she is estranged from her father, who lives in Llanview.
Born and Raised:
"I was born in Dusseldorf, Germany. My father is German, and my mother is American. They met in New York and got married. Then they moved to Germany and had me. Less than a year later, we returned to New York where I grew up."
The Acting Bug:
"All my life people had said to me, 'Oh, Liz, you should be an actress,' but I never thought about it seriously. When I was in my first semester at Sarah Lawrence College, there were these really cool senior girls sitting in my dorm house, talking about a play. I guess I looked interested, because they asked if I wanted to audition. I got very sick to my stomach, because the idea of auditioning for a play freaked me out. I ended up trying out, and I got four little parts. I loved it so much that it became my major."
Scams 'R' Us:
"I just finished an independent film called Schemers. The producers are still looking for a distributor. They're trying to get it accepted at some of the film festivals. It's a mock documentary about these people who pull scams on scam artists. They think they're doing something good, but it's questionable."
Soap Student:
"I became very interested in soap operas and began to pursue doing noe. I thought they could teach me a lot. Once I got the role, I started watching One Life to Live every day. I'm just as involved in Todd and Tea's storyline as I am with my own. I'm learning so much from Stephen (Markle, Mel). Maxine (Levinson, the show's executive producer) is a great example of an incredible businesswoman and a great leader. She's an inspiration to all young women. I also look up to Claire and Matt Labine (OLTL's head writers), who are amazing artists. Claire is teaching me so much."
Two of a Kind:
"Dorothy's a New Yorker, like me, and she went to a liberal arts college, like me. Dorothy is similar to her father. She's an idealist and wants to do something good for humanity. She's out for the truth and has a lot of fire."
Wilderness Girl:
"I love the outdoors. I live in Westchester (N.Y.), and I love to go hiking here. My boyfriend and I just went to New Hampshire, and my parents have a beach house here in New York, which I adore."
A Book A Day:
"I love to read. I'm kind of a bookworm. Right now, I'm reading Mia Farrow's autobiography, which is really good."
Great Expectations:
"People always have dreams about something they want to be doing by a certain age. There's so much I want to do in life, but you also have to deal with the moment. For now, I'm just really honored to be on One Life to Live."
