In The Spotlight

Biography Magazine
December 2002

Claim to Fame:

Last year, this up-and-coming TV actress replaced Angie Harmon in the ever-changing cast of NBC's crime show Law & Order, as green but ambitious Assistant District Attorney Serena Southerlyn (the first blond, no less). As protegee and partner of prosecutor Jack McCoy (Sam Waterston), she's had to contend with cases involving everything from Internet spies to murdered tenants.

Current Role:

She's back in the courtroom for her 2nd season- and the show's 13th.

Prominent Parts:

Rohm did double duty in demons and dollars. From 1999 to 2001, she staked out a role as LAPD Detective Kate Lockley on the WB's Angel, the Buffy spin-off about a hunky vampire with a soul. Meanwhile, in 2000, she wheeled and dealed as Wall Street investment banker Alison Jeffers on TNT's ensemble drama Bull.

Objection!

Rohm faced the wrath of loyal L&O fans annoyed by her casting- who started a petition to have her fired.

Overruled!

She made Maxim magazine's "Hot 100" list this year, voted one of the most watchable women in entertainment.

Beginnings:

Born April 23, 1973, in Dusseldorf, German, to Everhard, a corporate attorney, and Lisa, a TV writer (they split when she was 9). When she was a year old, the family moved to New York City; Rohm still maintains dual citizenship. As a freshman at Sarah Lawrence College, she auditioned for the drama department to impress some friends, and found herself in Bondage, a one-act play by David Henry Hwang. "At first I was just intrigued," she recalled. "And then I just really grew to love it." After graduating with a degree in drama and European history, she landed a spot as social worker Dorothy Hayes on the venerable soap One Life To Live from 1997-98. "I figured if models who can't act their way out of a hat could get roles, then I could probably land one." Big break: the 1998 TV pilot The Invisible Man. The show stayed invisible, but she caught the eye of its producer, L&O's Dick Wolf.

Hobby:

When not shooting on the sidewalks of New York, she hops on her horse, Illustrious, and practices jumps.
