Mayor Bloomberg was ready for his closeup. In his acting debut, Bloomberg aced his part during a "Law & Order" shoot yesterday at City Hall.
How do we know?
Well, we don't - but we're willing to take the word of the "Law & Order" cast.
"He was the one-take wonder," gushed Elisabeth Rohm, the blond beauty who plays an assistant district attorney on the popular NBC crime drama.
The stars, including Rohm, Sam Waterston and Fred Thompson, with dozens of crew members in tow, descended on City Hall in the early morning hours. They shot two scenes with Bloomberg in the Blue Room, while he discussed the slaying of an assistant district attorney.
"The mayor did great," said Thompson, a former U.S. senator. "A lot of us are kind of worried about our jobs after watching him."
For 14 years, the show has filmed on and around the streets of the city. But yesterday was the first time it was allowed to film inside City Hall.
"We own the place for about 15, 20 minutes. It's just terrific," said executive producer Jeffrey Hayes. "It's a beautiful day. Look at the majesty of our actors coming down those steps."
Hayes said Bloomberg was written into the script after the show got a call from Katherine Oliver, commissioner of the Mayor's Office of Film, Theatre and Broadcasting.
"It gives an authenticity," he said. "You can't build this."
Oliver said the mayor's cameo - which will be shown on NBC later this year - was a way to "reinforce that this industry means a lot to the city."
"It means a lot of jobs," she said. "It's also a postcard to the city."
Then-Mayor Rudy Giuliani appeared on the show in 2000.
Bloomberg will donate his $678 pay for the role to the New York Police & Fire Widows' & Children's Benefit Fund.
Hours later, the mayor appeared at a news conference in Brooklyn, noting the experience was "a lot of fun."
"My scheduler has blocked out Emmy Award night," he cracked.
